About us
One pan, a lot of dinners
Cast & Crumb started with a secondhand cast iron skillet and a kitchen with about two feet of counter. Most nights we had half an hour, a few things in the fridge, and no patience for recipes with twenty ingredients.
So we wrote down what worked. Sauces you can make while the pasta boils. One good way to cook a steak. A plan for the week so Thursday doesn’t sneak up on you. Those notes turned into the books, classes and kitchen things in the shop, and the free recipes on the blog.
That’s the story, anyway. Here’s the truth.
How it’s built
Cast & Crumb is a made-up shop. It’s a demo store for DPD, which sells digital downloads, physical products, memberships and services for creators. Nothing here is for sale, nothing ships, and checkout runs in test mode, so no card is ever charged. The recipes are demo recipes too: they haven’t been tested in a professional kitchen.
The site is a plain static site on GitHub Pages. Everything to do with buying comes from DPD’s cart components, a few HTML elements that load from one script tag:
<dpd-product>draws the product cards in the shop and the buy box on each product page, with the price, description and add to cart button straight from the store.<dpd-add-to-cart>is the button on its own, like the Supper Club button on the home page and the “Goes well with” boxes.<dpd-cart-button>is the cart icon in the header. It opens the cart drawer on any page.<dpd-cart>and<dpd-checkout-button>make up the cart page.
They pick up the site’s colors and fonts from a few lines of CSS. When you check out, you go to the store’s own checkout page (styled to match) to pay, and “Continue shopping” there brings you back here with your cart.

DEMO10PER (10% off) and DEMO5DOL ($5 off) work too. Some products show off
particular features: an upsell on Weeknight Sauces,
a license agreement and stamped PDF on the
Weekly Meal Planner, and a redirect after
purchase on the Supper Club. Each product page has a
note saying what it shows.
